 With the pandemic taking over most of 2020, I missed out on something that brings me a lot of joy; going to the movies! Seeing movies with friends and family was always a fun outing, and a nice distraction from our lives. Many movies that were set to release last year were delayed, and few were released through streaming platforms. We can only hope that we can soon return to the cinema, so that we can reunite with loved ones, and smell that movie popcorn again. Regardless of the COVID-19 restrictions, there are still some great movies set to release this year. Let’s dive in!Raya and the Last DragonComing March 5th, Disney presents their first animated film of the year, following Disney-Pixar’s “Soul” last holiday season. In this film, our main character Raya attempts to track down the last dragon in the fantasy world of Kumandra, and rid the world of evil monsters known as the Druun. This film is rated PG, and is available only on Disney + with “Premier Access.” This means you’ll have to pay an additional $30.00 aside from a subscription to Disney +, so make sure you’ve got your whole family watching to make the steep price worth it! Watch the preview below: Godzilla Vs. KongIt’s the matchup of the year! We’ve seen many iconic character fights in the last few years. Batman V. Superman, Captain America V. Iron Man, and now Godzilla V. Kong! Set to release on March 25, this film serves as a sequel to both of the contenders previous films: Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. This film is rated PG-13, and can be viewed with a subscription to HBO Max. Who do you want to win? I’m team Kong! Watch the preview below: LucaAfter Raya and the Last Dragon, the next animated film in Disney’s lineup is Luca, which releases on June 18, hopefully in theaters! The movie is set in Italy, and is a coming-of-age story about a boy trying to enjoy his life on the surface, but is truly a sea monster. The film is rated PG, and while not it’s not certain it will release in theaters, it will likely be released on Disney + later in the year. Preview: The Rise of GruMinions are back! This time with a familiar face, as we see the origins Gru! In this film, we see Gru on his pursuit of becoming the greatest villain of all time, by first joining the fearsome Vicious 6, a group of some of the worlds greatest villains. This will be the 5th installment in the Despicable Me franchise that started in 2010. The minions return to the big screen on July 2, and will be shown in theaters. (Rated PG) Trailer: Jungle CruiseDisneyland may be closed, however, this summer we get a new look into the Adventureland ride. On July 29, we follow Dr. Houghton, played by Emily Blunt, into the Amazon River, aided by a river guide, played by Dwayne Johnson, search for an ancient tree of healing. This movie continues the trend of creating film based upon a Disney ride, which was most popular with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchises. (Rated PG) Trailer: Spiderman: No Way HomeReturning for a 3rd installment, Spiderman: No Way Home is in theaters on December 17. Along with its December release date, the movie will also be set during the holiday season. The film is rated PG-13, and follows 2019’s Spiderman: Far From Home. This will be Marvel’s 4th film released this year, following films like Black Widow, and The Eternals. Also, our three main actors, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon, reprise their roles in this third movie. Teaser Trailer: This year should be a great year for film!
