Seasons Greetings! It’s December, and it’s time to bring on the holiday cheer! Today, I’ll be discussing some of the most popular holiday songs and listing them by number of streams, from least to greatest. Let’s get into it!
#10: “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” by Frank Sinatra, feat. B. Swanson Quartet
This classic Christmas tune was released in 1950, and has since been re-released and re-mastered numerous times. On Spotify, the song has 327 million streams. This tune has certainly been around for a while!
#9: “Do They Know It’s Christmas? (1984 Version)” by Band Aid
This song was written in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, which was created in light of the Ethiopian famine from 1983-1985. The song features various popular European artists from the time. The song has since been re-recorded with artists like Paul McCaurtney, Bono, and Chris Martin of Coldplay. On Spotify, the song has nearly 350 million streams.
#8: “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms
This classic track was released in 1970, and has also been re-recorded and remastered many times by popular artists. On Spotify, the song has almost 440 million streams. This is one of my favorites from the classic Christmas era!
#7: “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee
This Rockin’ tune was released in 1958, a whole 63 years ago! Brenda Lee recorded the tune when she was only 13 years old! On Spotify, the track has over 445 million streams.
#6: “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams
The Andy Williams Christmas Album was released in 1963, along with the widely famous “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” On Spotify, the track has nearly 430 million streams.
#5: “Mistletoe” by Justin Beiber
One of the more recent holiday hits, Justin Beiber’s “Mistletoe” was released in 2011. This was released not too long after Beiber’s breakthrough with the widely popular song “Baby” featuring Ludacris. On Spotify, the track has over 440 million streams!
#4 “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” by Michael Bublé
One of the smoothest voices in modern music, Michael Bublé released his rendition of this Christmas classic in 2011 (The same year as Beiber’s Mistletoe!) The song was originally written in 1957 by Robert Meredith Willson. On Spotify, Bublé’s version has over 528 million streams!
#3 “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande
About 7 years before she became a judge on NBC’s “The Voice,” one of the most powerful voices in modern music, Ariana Grande released “Santa Tell Me” in 2014. On Spotify, the track has over 565 million streams!
#2: Last Christmas” by Wham!
About 37 Christmas’ ago, George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley released the widely famous “Last Christmas” in 1984 (the same year as “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”). George Michael actually wrote the song in his childhood bedroom! The song also eventually inspired a move by the same name, which was released in 2019. On Spotify, the track has over 752 million streams.
#1: “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey
Was there ever any doubt? In 1994, Mariah Carey released this Christmas tune, and it instantly became a classic. The song was co-written by Carey and Walter Afanasieff, and it was composed in a mere 15 minutes! On Spotify, the track has over 992 million streams, and is getting very close to 1 billion!
